Overview
Problem We
Solve
Adaptive Networks solves the problem of network
communications in harsh powerline environments. Our products have been
field proven by industry leaders in industries including electric
utilities, manufacturing, mining, shipping, and subsea oil and gas
production, meeting critical communications requirements 24/7. Our
technology has gained acceptance by standards bodies, as an ISO
standard (shipping) and an IEC standard (electric utilities). We
provide self-contained low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV)
powerline communications solutions, including couplers.
Our
technology alleviates the expensive, complex, time-consuming, and in
many instances, impossible-to-solve, problem of running communications
wire by allowing data networks to operate in the same reliable fashion,
at the same or higher bandwidths, over existing wiring infrastructure
such as utility electric grids, on-premises powerlines, subsea
powerlines, and other copper media, at maximum distances. This makes it
feasible for users to leverage existing power wiring to establish
primary, supplementary, complementary and redundant network
communications.
Core Competency
Adaptive Networks is engaged in the
research, development and sales of networking
technology for use in wiring environments that exhibit adverse or
electrically hostile conditions. Our technology is applicable to
communications over any media where noise or signal integrity is an
issue, in particular, powerline, existing twisted copper pair, cable,
and wireless. We have focused on delivering solutions for the powerline. Working at the physical (PHY) and media access control
(MAC) layers, the developed
technologies optimally take into account the requirements that noisy
and distorted media impose on these layers.
Business
Approach
Since 1986, Adaptive Networks has operated as a provider of Powerline
Communication products. In 1994 Adaptive became a fabless semiconductor
provider offering an assortment of AN Pro-Line™ chip-based
products with throughputs of 100 kbps, 19.2 kbps and 4.8 kbps. These
solutions, meeting the requirements of harsh industrial and commercial
environments, are available as OEM products for hardware manufacturers
in chipset, module and modem system form factors. Today we
offer:
- Chipsets
- DSP-based solutions with application hosting
- Modules
- Standalone Modem Systems, including Couplers
- Simulation tools to verify performance
As a global provider of powerline communications technology we sell
products to a variety of demanding commercial and industrial customers
via OEMs, system integrators, system engineers, distributors and direct to
end-users. Our products are used to leverage existing wiring to
generate increased revenue, decrease costs, improve operating
efficiencies, ensure safety and gain a competitive advantage through
the automation, control, monitoring and communication of data.
Intellectual
Property
Adaptive Networks has developed and
owns the rights to multiple patents associated with communications over
wiring with adversely effected conditions. The development of this
intellectual property has been amassed over a 20 year period and
represents a thoroughly researched, advanced and highly integrated
approach. The result is technology and products known for reliability,
robustness, standards acceptance, compliance with international power
emissions regulations
and the ability to operate without compromise. The experience in
developing this intellectual property justifies the claim that Adaptive
Networks is indeed the authority on powerline communications and the
leader in providing solutions for communications in harsh industrial
and commercial environments.
Adaptive has developed PowerStream™, our breakthrough high-speed technology with the ability to properly handle
demanding multimedia audio, video and voice communications with true
Quality of Service (QoS.) The applications for this technology are
widespread and varied including demanding industrial and commercial uses
requiring multimedia support. In addition, our strong research and extensive
intellectual property covering network communications over
impaired-wiring generates significant licensing, royalty and contract
revenue for Adaptive.
